Course Description

The Advanced Social Work Practice MA/PGDip/PGCert is designed for qualified social workers who wish to enhance their professional skills and capacity in reflection, supervision, and leadership. This programme enables practitioners to work at a specialist level, improving outcomes for service users. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of advanced theories, models, and methods of social work intervention, ensuring practice aligns with the Knowledge and Skills Statement (KSS) and regulatory body standards. The course is delivered part-time over 2-4 years, primarily online, allowing students to balance their professional commitments with academic development. Teaching staff bring extensive experience and strong links with local authorities and independent agencies. Upon graduation, students will be well-equipped to pursue specialist practitioner roles or advanced management positions. Please note that this programme is exclusively for those who already hold a professional social work qualification and are currently employed in the field.

Tuition Fee Details

The tuition fee is £69 per credit. The university reserves the right to increase postgraduate tuition fees in line with changes to legislation, regulation and any government guidance or decisions. The tuition fees for part-time UK study are subject to annual review and the institution reserves the right to increase the fees each academic year by no more than the level of inflation. Any annual increase in tuition fees will be notified to students at the earliest opportunity in advance of the academic year to which any applicable inflationary rise may apply.

UK qualifications

Second class honours classification (2:2 or above).

Minimum of two years post qualifying experience.

Registered with Social Work England and currently employed as a social worker.

Satisfactory DBS check.

Employer reference required.

Other qualifications

Equivalent of a second-class honours degree 2:2 or above and/or a social work qualification at undergraduate (level 6) or postgraduate (level 7).

Currently employed as a social worker.

English Language Requirements


IELTS

IELTS 7.0 overall and no less than 6.5 in each component.
