Course Description

The Veterinary Nursing with Foundation Year BSc is designed for students who wish to pursue a career as a registered veterinary nurse but require an alternative entry route into degree-level study. Delivered in collaboration with The College of Animal Welfare at their Huntingdon campus, this five-year full-time programme bridges the gap to higher education. The foundation year introduces essential veterinary nursing topics, animal health, and academic skills, preparing students for the subsequent BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing curriculum. Throughout the course, students develop clinical expertise in areas such as diagnostic tests, medical treatments, and minor surgical procedures. The programme integrates theoretical learning with significant work-based practical experience, ensuring graduates are equipped to join the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons' Register of Veterinary Nurses. Students also gain the VetSkill Companion Animal Suitably Qualified Persons qualification. This course is ideal for those passionate about animal welfare who are ready to develop the professional, legal, and practical competencies required for a successful career in the veterinary sector.
