Course Description

This Secondary English PGCE course is designed for aspiring teachers who wish to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) alongside an academic PGCE qualification. The programme prepares you to teach English to students aged 11 to 16, with opportunities to gain experience in the 11-to-18 age range. You will develop essential pedagogical skills, including the teaching of texts, language, grammar, and oracy, as well as effective lesson design and assessment strategies. The course emphasises teaching in diverse, multicultural urban environments, leveraging the institution's London location. You will benefit from 25 weeks of school placements, allowing you to build confidence and expertise in a practical setting. Throughout your training, you will receive highly personalised support from the tutor team, designed to help you grow as a creative and ambitious educator. This full-time course follows the pattern of the English school year, starting in early September and running until early July, providing a comprehensive foundation for a successful career in secondary education.
