The MSc Information Technology with Financial Technologies is a transformative programme specifically designed for graduates from non-IT backgrounds who seek to develop expertise in both information technology and the rapidly evolving field of Financial Technologies. By combining essential IT principles with specialised knowledge of financial systems and emerging digital innovations, the programme equips you with the skills to understand and leverage big data in finance, navigate disruptive technologies, and drive the development of innovative financial solutions. You will explore the core role of finance in organisations, including planning, control and reporting, and critically examine how a spectrum of digital tools – including Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies and Neural Networks – are revolutionising the sector. Throughout your studies, you will gain an in-depth understanding of big data’s role in finance and the intricacies of emerging technologies. Core modules like Digital Finance will immerse you in how data is utilised across financial and organisational functions, while Blockchain Technologies for Finance will provide a deep dive into current fintech developments, their profound impact on investors, financial services, markets and the global economy. You will learn to critically evaluate ongoing issues and debates surrounding fintech and Blockchain, linking this understanding to recent advancements in the digital economy. Through simulation tools, case studies and exploration of areas such as Digital Identity, Cloud Computing, Cryptoassets, Open Banking, RegTech and InsurTech, you will develop the practical skills required to implement effective data finance solutions and understand their ethical, social, and organisational implications. The curriculum builds your expertise progressively, starting with fundamental IT concepts before advancing to sophisticated fintech methodologies and their diverse applications, from disruption in asset servicing and capital markets to innovations in investment management and online marketplace lending. This structured approach ensures that even those without prior extensive technical or financial experience can develop the confidence and competence to work with complex financial technology systems and contribute to their advancement. As the financial industry increasingly relies on technological innovation to enhance efficiency, security, and customer experience, graduates of this programme find themselves well-positioned for roles that require both technical understanding and specialised financial technology capabilities. The skills you develop, including an awareness of the impact and legal implications of fintech, will be highly valued by employers seeking professionals who can bridge the gap between technological potential and strategic financial impact in a digitally transforming world.
