Course Description

This vocationally oriented Pharmaceutical Science degree is designed for students passionate about understanding how new medicines are invented and delivered. The course combines biology and chemistry to examine drug design, targets, and delivery mechanisms. Students will explore the entire process of rational drug design, from identifying biological targets linked to diseases to optimising lead compounds. You will also investigate the parameters affecting drug delivery to specific body sites to maximise therapeutic results while minimising side effects. The programme is taught through a mix of theoretical teaching and extensive practical work in the institution's £30 million Science Centre, which features state-of-the-art laboratories. Students have the opportunity to undertake work placements in their third year to gain real-world experience. The course is accredited by The Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS), and graduates are eligible for Associate Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry. This degree is ideal for those looking to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry or further scientific research.
